About Greater Grand Forks Community Theater
Established in 1947, The Greater Grand Forks Community Theater (GGFCT) is a non-profit organization providing entertainment, education and recreation to the region through the opportunity to experience and participate in live theatrical entertainment. We are listed as one of the ten oldest community theatres in the nation (“Millennium Theatres” by Theatre USA).
From 1947 until 1983, GGFCT performances were held wherever performance space could be found – mostly halls, churches and hotels. The Westward Ho was one of the most popular venues as the manager of the hotel was very interested in and supportive of community theatre.
In 1982, GGFCT bought the Number One fire hall from the City of Grand Forks for $3,500 and renovated it into a one hundred seat theatre. The Fire Hall Theatre opened her doors in 1983, and GGFCT became one of the few community theatres in North Dakota, and North America, to own its own facility. A few years of renovations (and much-needed ADA compliance) later and our theatre now seats 78.
Each year, our theatre season begins in September and runs through May. We also host a summer kids’ theatre camp that teaches children about all aspects of theatre, both on-stage and off. Though we call the Fire Hall home, we perform in various community venues, including the Empire Arts Center, Burtness Theater, and Masonic Lodge.
All our actors and crew are volunteers, and we’d love you to join our family!
